Throwing a Shindig / Questions For the Floor

My players are going undercover at a ball held at the estate of a wealthy noble in town. I have NPCs for them to interview/interact with, a gallery of relics to explore, and a sprawling estate. Has anyone run a shindig for their players? Any advice or tips?

Also, while I have your attention, here are a couple other questions I wanted to ask...

1. Was/Is there a module that uses 1e AD&D Fiend Folio themes and monsters almost exclusively?

2. How have you converted AD&D monster stats to B/X stats?

Thank you.

  1. To answer your first question:

Yes, it was called The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun. Though it doesn't use that many monsters from the Fiend Folio as one might often thing.

    As for your second question:
    I usually just wing it.

  2. In "The World Between for Fictive Hack" the sample adventure generation example has some quick random tables for stuff to happen during a party at a big noble house. It's on page 206 or so.

Parties are where nobility work out their business and social lives, so they are GREAT places for scenarios. Also good for encouraging play and conflict and downplaying murdering those who annoy or disagree with you. =)
